An older Orthodox coast
Lukovë and the surrounding villages remained mostly Christian Orthodox through Ottoman rule — partly because the local communities resisted conversion, partly because the terrain made administration difficult. The 18th-century monastery of Shën Kollë (Saint Nicholas) above the village is the most visible relic; smaller chapels are scattered across the hills above the coast road, several with frescoes worth the walk. The community here is also part of the Greek-speaking minority of the Himarë region, though the linguistic mix is more complicated than further north.
