Old Qeparo, on the hill
The old village of Qeparo (Qeparoi i Vjetër) is a Greek-speaking settlement of 17th- and 18th-century stone houses on the slope 200 metres above the modern coastal road. It is one of the seven Greek-speaking villages of the Himarë coast. The old church (Shën Dhimitri / Saint Demetrius) has 18th-century frescoes; the local cemetery has gravestones in both Greek and Albanian script going back at least 250 years. The village was substantially emptied during the 1991 emigration wave and is now slowly being reoccupied seasonally.
