How to get from TIA to anywhere in Albania — taxis, buses, transfers, rental cars — and what each actually costs.

Tirana International is small, central, and easy. Choosing the right onward transport from arrivals saves more than money — it sets the rhythm of the trip.

SECTION 01

To Tirana centre

The fixed taxi rate is €20–25 and the drive is 25 minutes. The Rinas Express airport bus is €4, leaves on the hour, and stops behind the National Theatre. If you have luggage and energy, take the bus. If you have luggage and a partner, take a taxi.

SECTION 02

To the coast

Taxis to Durres are €38 (40 minutes). To Sarande, €220 (4h 30m) — long, but cheaper than three intercity bus tickets if you are four travellers. Buses to most coastal cities leave from the Tirana terminals, not the airport — you need to get to Tirana first.

SECTION 03

To the south or north

Berat (€95 / 2h 10), Gjirokaster (€140 / 3h 30), Shkoder (€85 / 1h 40). Rental cars at the airport start from €25/day off-season — for any trip beyond 48 hours, a car usually beats taxis and the schedule freedom is worth more than the price.

SECTION 04

The hidden option

Private transfers booked the day before are €5–15 cheaper than the airport taxi queue and arrive on time. WhatsApp the driver your flight number; they track delays and wait without charging extra.

Useful notes
  • Avoid the unmarked taxi touts inside arrivals — use the official rank or pre-book.
  • Card payments work at the official taxi rank and the rental desks.
  • Buy your local SIM at the Vodafone shop in arrivals before leaving the terminal.
