The practical things to check before you arrive: documents, cash, cards, and daily spending.

Albania is easy for many visitors, but cash still matters and card acceptance changes quickly once you leave larger towns.

SECTION 01

Documents

Check entry rules for your passport before booking. Many travelers can visit visa-free for short stays, but rules can change and depend on nationality.

SECTION 02

Money

The Albanian lek is the working currency. Euros may be quoted for hotels, cars, and tours, but everyday spending is easier in lek.

SECTION 03

Cards

Cards work in many hotels and restaurants in Tirana and major coastal towns. Guesthouses, parking, small boats, markets, and mountain transfers often expect cash.

SECTION 04

ATMs

Use bank ATMs when possible and withdraw before mountain or beach-day detours. Keep smaller notes for taxis, coffee, and beach parking.

Useful notes
  • Carry cash without carrying all your cash.
  • Ask whether a quoted price is euro or lek.
  • Keep passport details handy for SIM cards and some rentals.
