When to go: month by month

The best time depends on whether you want beaches, mountains, food, festivals, or quiet old towns.

The best time depends on whether you want beaches, mountains, food, festivals, or quiet old towns.

There is no single best month. June and September are the broad winners, but spring and October can be better for culture-heavy trips.

SECTION 01

April and May

Good for Tirana, Berat, Gjirokaster, road trips, and spring landscapes. The sea is still cool, but the old towns are comfortable.

SECTION 02

June

The coast is open, the water is warming, and the crowds have not peaked. This is one of the best all-round months.

SECTION 03

July and August

Best for guaranteed beach weather and festivals, worst for Ksamil crowds and coastal parking. Book ahead.

SECTION 04

September and October

September is excellent for swimming with fewer crowds. October is better for food, culture, and cities than for full beach mode.

Useful notes
  • Mountains need local weather checks.
  • Festivals can shift dates.
  • Avoid building the whole trip around one beach in August.
